Second Shepherds' Play Poster copyIn the absence of chocolate advent calendars and no Father Christmas to write letters to, have you ever wondered what people in the Middle Ages entertained themselves with in the countdown to Christmas?

Liverpool University students will be performing the Second Shepherds’ Play on Saturday 8 December at the Walker Art Gallery Family Day in the afternoon, and Ormskirk Parish Church in the evening as part of an evening of Early Music and Drama. Directed by Dr Sarah Peverley, Senior Lecturer in English, University of Liverpool. Proceeds from the evening performance go towards the Church Organ Repair Fund.

sspSo, if you’re intrigued to know what happens when two peasants steal a sheep and then attempt to pass it off as a newborn baby when the shepherds turn up, this might be the play for you. Go on, rearrange your weekend plans.
